Patton Photography bio picture

  • Welcome to Erik Patton Photography

Thanks for stopping by my corner of the interwebs to peek at my work. The good looking guy to your right is me on my wedding day.

I make pictures of people. Weddings, portraits, model portfolios, headshots, you name it. There's just something about taking some one's picture that grabs me.

I own a boutique studio just outside of Boston and specialize in weddings and environmental portraiture.

Have a look around the site and feel free to leave a comment or two.

Does your coverage area include Cape Cod?

I’ve been asked a couple of times if my coverage area includes Cape Cod and the answer is a resounding YES!

My coverage area includes the entire Cape all the way to Provincetown. So if you’re spending the weekend at a small B and B like the Stone Lion Inn in Wellfleet or getting married at a luxurious resort like the Chatham Bars Inn, you are within my coverage area. Disclosure: I’m biased because I think these both are beautiful!

In addition to weddings, the Cape is also a great location for doing family portraits or “rock the dress” day after sessions with you and your new hubby. Weekend getaways on the Cape are great times for doing on location portrait sessions because of the wide array of settings the Cape has to offer. So if you’re planning event on the Cape, I’d love to book a session with you!

October Bride Jill Talks about the American Cancer Society and Wedding Favors

One of my brides for 2010 works for the American Cancer Society. Part of her work for the ACS involves marketing and awareness for the organization and the diseases that it is working to fight. She asked me if I would be willing to put together something for my blog about wedding favors by the ACS and was delighted she thought of me.

She writes:

I am so thankful for you to include this in your blog, as it is something very important to me not just because I work here, but because it is a way that I will be honoring my grandmother at our wedding, who passed away from leukemia 3 years ago. I feel like it will be a wonderful way to remember her and also a little sad because she will be so missed during this time.

Part of the promotional efforts of the ACS that Jill is working on are wedding favors for reception tables. By having them at her own wedding, she’s showing her commitment to fighting cancer in a very personal way. Here is the official description of the favors from the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society offers couples a unique opportunity to make a lasting impression on their wedding or shower guests: unique, custom printed charitable favors that express meaningful messages in lieu of traditional wedding favors. Messages are often in memory of a loved one, and allow the couple the chance to celebrate their happiness by giving back to an organization that is deeply committed to helping cancer patients stay well, get well, find cures and fight back. By choosing charitable donations as their favors, couples are making a statement to their close family and friends that shows their commitment, not only to each other, but to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

American Cancer Society Wedding Favors
I’m looking forward to her wedding in October and am happy to support both her and the American Cancer Society.

About Erik

A few weeks ago the 25 things about myself list was all the rage on Facebook. I bet I was tagged by 50 people to do the list. I finally got around to it and thought it would make a good blog post so that my blog readers could learn a bit about me too.

The list isn’t in any particular order of importance. It’s pretty random actually.

  1. I’ll be 40 this year. Wow. Didn’t see that coming.
  2. I have a day job at Tufts University as a linux system administrator. Tux is my hero.
  3. I went to undergrad at Kansas State and grad school at the University of Kansas, both for geography.
  4. I like brewing my own beer from scratch. My wife complains it smells up the house though.
  5. I have a thirteen year old son. He’s at the age where the answer to every question is “yeah”, “huh” or “whatever”.
  6. I walk to work.
  7. In the summer, I ride an old Triumph motorcycle.
  8. I dislike grocery shopping, but don’t mind cooking.
  9. I’m addicted to my phone.
  10. I was married just over a year ago to my lovely wife Colleen of Ipswich, Massachusetts.
  11. I used to work for DreamWorks Animation. My name is in the credits for both Shrek and Shrek II.
  12. I lived in the silicon valley during the bubble and bust of the internet boom in the early 90s.
  13. I’m a pretty rabid hockey fan. Go Bs!
  14. I am an eagle scout, so I can tie knots and build fires.
  15. My wife and I adopted a 15 year lid cat named Noah. I renamed him Fluffy.
  16. I enjoy snow skiing and was once on a ski team.
  17. My favorite ethnic cuisine is Mexican.
  18. This past holiday season I tried snowboarding. It didn’t go well.
  19. I went to three high schols in four years while growing up a military brat. Two of them are now closed.
  20. I have lived about ten years of my life in Germany and speak fluent German.
  21. I’m an Apple fanboy. Not too sure about the iPad though.
  22. My musical tastes are pretty eclectic. Right now I’m grooving on some early 80’s pop.
  23. In addition to being a military brat, I’m also a preacher’s kid.
  24. I’m originally from central Indiana. The fact that I like the Colts causes some friction with my in-laws.
  25. I love to make pictures that people will treasure.

Scott T.

Scott came to me a few weeks ago about getting some pictures done. He’s pretty busy as both an instructor and working musician, so schedules were kind of crazy. When I asked him what kind of music he plays, he told me he really enjoyes the blues and good old fashioned rock and roll.

We did both some natural light portraits as well as some edgier strobe lighting. I joked that one of these had to be his next CD cover and he seemed to really like the idea. Sounds like an awesome idea to me.

Here are the best from the shoot. Enjoy.
